Church Events


Quilters

The quilters will meet on August 7th & September 4th from 9 to 11 a.m. Sixteen ladies came to help make quilts in July. Lots of work was done that morning. Comforters were tied, sheets were measured and cut for backings and many squares were cut to make pretty quilt tops. Donations of sheets have increased as ladies go to garage sale and look for good fabric for our project. A sewing machine has been donated by Gloria Olsen. We will use that at the church on the mornings that we meet. We appreciate all the donations of fabrics and sheets by members of our congregation and your friends that learn about our work through you. Five quilts were donated to the Leaf River Methodist youth group that traveled to Tennessee in July. This group did a week’s worth of service projects for people in need. The quilts were gratefully accepted to help out people in our own country. In October, we will be sending our quilts to Lutheran World Relief. Our goal is to send one hundred this year. Please join us whenever you can.

Crafters!!

COFFEE AND GOODIES SERVED AT TEN ! You ask . . . Where do you find this tasty treasure? Tuesday, August 12th at 9 am in the social hall. The crafters will be busy assembling, creating, and generally having a fun time while making items to be sold at the next bazaar. If you like to get together with others, consider yourself invited regardless of skill level. No one is ever turned away for lack of skill!

Religious Book Club

The book club will resume meeting as usual in September – the fourth Monday at 1:00 pm.

The Progressive Dinner is back!

The Progressive Dinner will be held on Saturday, September 20 beginning at 5:00 pm! A planning meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 6 at 7:00 pm at the church. If you would like to host a portion of the dinner, or partner up with someone else, please plan to attend. New Carpet!

The new carpet and chair upholstery fabric has been ordered for the sanctuary.

Ladies Day Out

Due to a scheduling conflict, the date for our Ladies Day Out event has changed to Sunday, November 9, 2008 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Mark your calendars for this day of fun! Vendors offering everything from jewelry to food products to manicures will be there to pamper you and help you with your Christmas shopping! Watch for further details in the upcoming issues of the Spokesman. If you know of someone who offers a service or product that would like to be a part of this event, please call Kay Johnson at 815-262-8789 with their name and phone number.

Lutheran World Relief

We are once again collecting items for Lutheran World Relief. These items will be collected during August and September, and sent to Lutheran World Relief the first week of October. Items needed are: For Layettes: shirts or onesies, gowns or sleepers in sizes up to 24 months. Receiving blankets. Gently used, clean items can be substituted for new. For Health Kits: dark color hand towels, dark color washcloth, bath-size bar soap in it’s original packaging, metal nail file or nail clippers with file attached, ½ or ¾ inch Band-Aids (or similar brand). If you provide all of these items, please wrap the smaller items in the washcloth and wrap the washcloth with the remaining items in the towel and tie securely with ribbons or yarn. Do not place them in zip lock bags or other plastic packaging. We are also collecting additional bars of soap. Please bring bath-size bars in their original wrapping.
